A.R Rahman Exclusive Oscar Wish Wallpaper!

Indian music maestro A.R Rahman has bagged two awards at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony held at Los Angeles.

The double Oscar winning composer was honoured for his compositions in Danny Boyle’s rags-to-riches film “Slumdog Millionaire”, getting the awards for best compilation soundtrack for a motion picture and “Jai ho” being the best motion picture song. Rahman shares the Grammy with lyricist Gulzar who penned “Jai ho”.

“This is insane, god is great again,” Rahman said as he accepted his second award.

“Jai ho” has been sung by Sukhvinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Vijay Prakash and Rahman himself. This is the first time Rahman has been nominated for a Grammy. He joins other Indian music greats like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Zakir Jussain, Vikku Vinayak and Vishvamohan Bhatt who have won a Grammy in the past. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Collectes Rs.19 Crore in opening weekend

Hollywood filmmaker Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic “2012″, released Friday, has grossed over Rs.19 crore in its opening weekend in India.

Inspired by the idea of a global doomsday coinciding with the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar’s current cycle on Dec 21, 2012, the film released simultaneously in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across 715 screens with 676 prints.

“The film has performed exceedingly well in both metros as well as smaller centres appealing to a large range of audiences, including families who are drawn to the personal family storyline,” Kercy Daruwala, managing director of Sony Pictures India said in a statement Tuesday. Jayam Ravi’s new film Thillalangadi, the remake of the Telugu blockbuster Kick, was launched today morning (August 19) with a pooja and shoot at AVM Studios in Chennai. The first shot was directed by Chief Guest director Shankar, with Ilayathalapathy Vijay giving the clap shot!

The other invitees present at the pooja are Tamil Film Producers Council chief Ramanarayanan, KRG, Abirami Ramanathan, S.A Chandrasekhar, R.B Chowdhary, Ram Kumar, Kastoori Raja and actor Karthi.
